YOUNG OFFENDER INSTITUTIONS
Following an award from The Charles Plater Trust in January 2010, Ten Ten Theatre will produce a major new version of The Safer Streets Project in eight Young Offender Institutions between November 2010 and July 2011.

This project will build on a body of experience gained in Young Offender Institutions such as Wetherby, Aylesbury, Brinsford and particularly Feltham with whom we have had a long and fruitful working relationship.

A writer, a director and a team of actors will spend five consecutive days in each institution leading to a final performance to friends and family. The resulting work will feed into the development of a newly commissioned piece of drama which will ultimately be given a run of public performances.

Through the developmental process, we aim to:

  • Provide education in verbal literacy and non‐verbal communication;
  • Provide education and encouragement of interest in the dramatic arts;
  • Nurture confidence‐building and peer support through the workshop environment;
  • Enable young offenders to consider their future, and subsequently build self‐esteem and aspiration.
